Sawn Timber

Galician Sawn Pine Timber

Rough-sawn Galician pine timber, green or air-dried, cut to order at our own sawmill in Vimianzo and ready to export across Europe.

  • ✅ Shipping across Europe
  • ✅ ISPM 15 treatment available
  • ✅ Our own sawmill in Galicia

Galician sawn pine timber leaves our sawmill in Vimianzo, in the province of A Coruña, exactly as it comes off the saw: rough-sawn battens, boards and squared beams cut from Pinus pinaster (maritime pine) and Pinus radiata (radiata pine), the two conifers that dominate the forests of Galicia. It is a structural and packaging-grade timber, sawn to order and supplied either green — fresh off the saw — or air-dried, depending on what the buyer's application needs. This is not a catalogue item pulled from a stock list: each batch is cut in our own sawmill to the cross-section and length a buyer specifies, with no reseller sitting between the log and the lorry.

Buyers of this timber include pallet and crate manufacturers who need a steady volume of batten and board to keep a production line running, construction firms and formwork crews looking for reliable sections for shuttering and site timber, joinery workshops and carpenters who work Galician pine into light structural elements, and timber wholesalers who buy in to resell into their own distribution network. Most orders are placed in bulk — a full bundle or a complete truckload — because continuity of supply matters more to these buyers than picking individual pieces, and pricing per cubic metre improves as an order's cross-section and volume become more consistent.

We work Galician pine because it is the raw material we know best: felled, sawn and prepared for dispatch from the same site, which gives us direct control over cross-sections, drying state and lead times. We supply buyers across Spain and export sawn pine timber to buyers across Europe — Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland — adjusting packaging and paperwork to the destination and to the transport arrangement the buyer prefers.

From Forest to Sawmill: How We Produce This Timber

Our production runs on a short chain: we buy and manage the felling of pine logs from Galician forests, within the forestry framework overseen by the Xunta de Galicia's Consellería do Medio Rural, bring them to our facilities in Berdoias, Vimianzo, and saw them ourselves on our own bandsaw. That end-to-end control — from standing timber to a strapped, ready-to-ship bundle — is what lets us adjust cross-sections, lengths and drying state to what a specific order needs, rather than limiting buyers to a fixed list of stock sizes the way a merchant reselling other sawmills' output would have to.

Logs are graded by diameter and quality before they go through the saw, which lets us route each batch to the use it suits best: straighter, cleaner-grained timber for structural and joinery pieces, and the rest for packaging batten and general-purpose board, where appearance matters less but strength still does. We supply timber fresh-sawn — green, at a higher moisture content — when the end use is a further transformation, pallet manufacturing being the clearest example, since green timber nails and staples easily during pallet assembly. We supply it air-dried when a buyer needs a piece that is more dimensionally stable and less prone to movement afterwards. If your project calls for kiln drying to a controlled, lower moisture range than natural air-drying achieves, that is handled through our Kiln-Dried (KD) Timber line, built for applications where dimensional stability is critical.

Pinus Pinaster and Pinus Radiata: Species and Behaviour

The Galician pine we saw is mainly Pinus pinaster (maritime pine, locally pino do país), the species most widespread across Galicia's forests, with a straight grain, a good strength-to-weight ratio and a pronounced figure that makes it easy to recognise against other softwoods. It performs well in structural and packaging applications, takes nailing and stapling without splitting — important for pallet and crate manufacturers — and carries a moderate resin content worth allowing for in applications that will later be painted or varnished, since resin can affect coating adhesion if the timber isn't given time to condition first.

Depending on availability and the order, we also work Pinus radiata (radiata pine), a faster-growing species introduced into Galicia and widely present in the region's reforestation, with a somewhat softer timber, generally even grain and good workability for light joinery, formwork and elements that don't demand the maximum mechanical strength of maritime pine. Both species are sawn and graded separately on our site; if a specific species matters for your application, tell us when you order and we'll build the batch accordingly, since the two aren't always interchangeable in demanding structural uses. For projects that combine pine with another locally sourced hardwood, we also produce Sawn Eucalyptus Timber, a denser species with different mechanical properties that's useful when a single order needs extra hardness alongside the pine.

Neither species is kiln-dried at source, so the moisture behaviour a buyer sees on delivery reflects the drying state ordered rather than the species itself: green stock from either pine will still be shedding moisture for a period after arrival, while air-dried stock has already given up most of its free water and settles faster once it's in use. Buyers working to tight assembly tolerances, or stacking timber for any length of time before use, generally do better ordering air-dried stock and allowing it to acclimatise to local conditions before final cutting.

Cross-Sections, Drying and Dimensional Standards

We saw to the cross-section an order calls for: battens for packaging and light structural work, boards in various widths and thicknesses for shuttering and site use, and squared beams for structural work in construction and carpentry. Standard lengths run from 2.0 to 6.0 metres, though we cut specific lengths on request when order volume and section make it worthwhile. Sawing is rough — unplaned — which is the finish expected for structural and packaging timber, where section and strength matter more than surface appearance; if your application calls for a planed face, a square edge, or square edges on all four faces, mention it when ordering so we can assess whether we can accommodate it.

Dimensional stability depends directly on drying state: a green piece will move more as it dries out on site or in storage than a piece that has already been air-dried, something any buyer of structural timber already knows, and it's something we factor in when recommending one state over the other for a given use and its tolerance for movement. We also work to the cross-sections common in the pallet and packaging industry, so the timber we supply is compatible with the dimensions used to build pallets to EPAL/EUR specifications — that's a matter of section, timber quality and freedom from serious defects suited to that purpose, not a certification of the product itself. Before dispatch, we check each batch to screen out pieces with loose knots, through-cracks or other defects that would compromise the intended structural use.

Uses by Industry: From the Building Site to Industrial Packaging

Galician sawn pine timber sells into a wide range of sectors, and we tailor orders to each of them:

  • Pallet and crate manufacturers, who buy batten and board in volume to build EPAL/EURO pallets, custom pallets or export crates — many buyers in this group pair this timber with our Custom-Made Wood Pallets when they need both raw material and a finished product on the same order.
  • Construction companies and site crews, who use board and squared timber for shuttering, temporary shoring, and general site carpentry.
  • Joinery workshops and timber-frame carpenters, who work Galician pine into beams, purlins and lighter structural elements.
  • Timber wholesalers and distributors, who buy in full or part loads to resell into their own local or export networks.
  • Landscaping and outdoor construction firms, who use rough battens and boards for outdoor structures, fencing and rustic garden work.
  • Rustic and industrial furniture makers, who start from Galician pine board and beam as raw material ahead of their own sanding and finishing.
  • Logistics companies needing timber for one-off repair or manufacture of industrial packaging and transport crating.

Forest Management and Sustainability at Source

All the timber we saw comes from Galician forests, most of it from the immediate area around Vimianzo and neighbouring parts of the province, which keeps log transport short before sawing and means we know where every batch that leaves our saw actually came from. We work within the forestry management framework set by the regional Galician authorities, staying attuned to the forestry guidance and policy the regional administration publishes for the area we source from.

As a family sawmill that has worked the Galician forest for generations, we treat forestry sustainability as a condition for staying in business rather than a label to display: without well-managed forest, there's no log to saw next year. That's why we run our sourcing in line with the responsible forest management principles promoted by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), although we do not currently offer timber with certified chain-of-custody. If your project requires formal FSC or PEFC certification in the purchase paperwork, contact us before confirming the order so we can work out together whether a batch can be matched to that requirement, or whether you'd need a chain-of-custody-certified supplier for that particular volume.

Export and Logistics Across Europe

We export Galician sawn pine timber to buyers across Europe, with regular shipments within Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland. We arrange road transport in full or part loads depending on volume, and put together the export paperwork each shipment needs: delivery note, commercial invoice, and, where the destination requires it, additional phytosanitary documentation in the language or format the destination customs authority asks for. We can agree delivery on EXW, FOB or delivered terms, whichever fits the buyer's logistics and preferred carrier best.

For shipments outside the European Union — the United Kingdom, Switzerland and other destinations that apply phytosanitary import controls on timber — bear in mind that untreated sawn timber can be subject to different phytosanitary requirements than wood packaging treated in line with ISPM 15/NIMF-15; if your order needs to travel with heat treatment or a specific phytosanitary certificate, flag it when ordering so we can arrange it alongside the rest of the export documentation. Within the EU, buyers manufacturing pallets under the EPAL pool exchange system routinely source raw timber from suppliers like us to feed their own production lines. Production and shipping lead times depend on the volume and cross-section ordered, so we recommend confirming orders with enough lead time when dealing with large batches, unusual cross-sections, or destinations with more demanding customs requirements.

Why Buy Galician Pine Timber from Maderas Caamaño

We are a family-run sawmill and timber merchant based in Berdoias, Vimianzo (A Coruña), working Galician pine from standing timber through to the delivery lorry. That means buying Galician sawn pine timber from Maderas Caamaño is buying from the party that actually controls the log, the cut and the final cross-section of every batch, not from a reseller passing on another sawmill's output.

That closeness to production gives us real flexibility: we can adjust cross-sections and lengths to specific orders, supply green or air-dried timber depending on the use, and combine this line with other products in our range — from Kiln-Dried (KD) Timber to sawn timber in other species — within a single export order, cutting down the number of suppliers a buyer has to manage. It also means a buyer dealing with us can ask a question about a specific batch — how long it has been drying, what diameter logs it was cut from, whether a particular length is achievable — and get an answer from the people who actually sawed it, rather than from a sales desk relaying information from a third-party mill.

If you buy pine timber for your own pallet manufacturing, packaging, construction or joinery work and need a Galician supplier with direct dealing and the flexibility to match cross-section and drying state to your project, get in touch with the cross-section, quantity and destination you need, and we'll put together a proposal built around your project rather than a fixed minimum order.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply green or air-dried Galician pine?

Both, depending on the order: fresh-sawn green timber, common in pallet manufacturing, and air-dried timber for applications that need more dimensional stability. If you need more controlled drying, ask about our Kiln-Dried (KD) Timber.

What cross-sections and lengths can you supply?

We saw battens, boards and squared beams in various sections, with standard lengths from 2.0 to 6.0 metres and specific lengths available on request depending on order volume.

Is this timber FSC or PEFC certified?

We do not currently offer timber with certified chain-of-custody, but we source in line with FSC's responsible forest management principles. If your project requires formal certification, contact us before confirming the order so we can work it out together.

Can this timber be used to build EPAL pallets?

We work to cross-sections compatible with the dimensions commonly used to build pallets to EPAL/EUR specifications. That's a matter of section and timber quality, not a certification of the product itself.

Do you export outside Spain?

Yes, we export to buyers across Europe — Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Ireland — arranging transport and export paperwork, including phytosanitary documentation where the destination requires it.

What is the typical lead time?

Lead time depends on the volume and cross-section ordered. For large batches or unusual cross-sections, we recommend confirming the order with plenty of lead time.

What's your minimum order for galician sawn pine timber?

We don't publish a fixed minimum order for sawn pine timber — we supply everything from a smaller mixed load to a full truckload, and we're set up for larger recurring wholesale orders too. Tell us your sections, lengths and volume for a quote.
